Mark, of Shallow Minded Guide Fishing, reports that inshore fishing is on fire in the Little River area, possibly due to extremely low tides over the past week. Recent trips have produced double digit numbers of both red drum and flounder. The drum have been running 21-27”, and the keeper flounder are between 14-18”. Action has been centered near creeks dumping into the ICW, with the best fishing between Bonaparte Creek and the Little River waterfront.
Casting a mud minnow set 3-4’ beneath a float and letting it drift out of the creek mouths on a falling tide has been a productive tactic for both flounder and drum, but anglers can also fish the standard Carolina rig with success. Peanut pogies are also excellent baits, and are beginning to show up in numbers in the ICW. The Sunset Beach Swing Bridge is a good place to start looking for the pogies.
Teresa, at Cherry Grove Pier, reports that the flounder bite has been excellent over the past week. The flounder are mostly hitting shrimp on the bottom.
Shrimp on bottom rigs have also been producing some pompano, spadefish, and whiting.
The sheepshead bite has been off and on, but some very heavy sheeps have been caught recently.
Bluefish averaging 6-7 lbs. are hitting live baits fished off the end of the pier, and a 29 lb. 4 oz. king was caught on a smaller bluefish earlier in the week.
The water temperature is 73 degrees.
