Anglers fishing the island’s southern beaches are hooking some pompano and sea mullet, and some big (1.5-2 lbs.) mullet are feeding on the northern beaches at present.
Anglers fishing the sound are connecting with red drum ranging from puppies to citation-class fish on artificial lures and natural baits.
Good numbers of speckled trout and gray trout are also feeding in the sound and biting bait and artificials.
Plenty of flounder are also looking for meals in the sound, and anglers are hooking some during the days and gigging big numbers at night.

Those soaking bait from Hatteras Island’s southern beaches are finding mostly sea mullet, spot, croaker, and other panfish. Some puppy drum have been in the mix lately as well, primarily at Hatteras. Shrimp, bloodworms, and cut baits are fooling the fish in the surf.
Inshore boaters continue to hook big numbers of puppy drum while soaking baits and working artificials like gold spoons and soft plastics in the sound. Speckled and gray trout are also on the feed in the sound and pouncing on soft plastic baits.
The offshore fleet is still seeing some solid trolling action in the blue water off Hatteras Inlet, with gaffer dolphin and some limit catches of wahoo recently. Blackfin tuna have also been in the mix, and boats are releasing a few sailfish on top of their meatfish catches. Naked and skirted ballyhoo are fooling the majority of the offshore predators.

More bluefish along with some puppy drum, flounder, pompano, and sea mullet are biting bottom rigs from the beachfront. Shrimp and cut baits are fooling most of the bottom feeders.
Anglers fishing the sound have released some citation-class red drum recently, and it shouldn’t be long before the big reds are biting along the beaches.
Plenty of puppy drum are still in the mix inshore, and speckled and gray trout along with a few flounder are also biting baits and lures that anglers are casting in the sound.
The offshore fleet is still seeing some good wahoo action, with some blackfin tuna and dolphin also finding their way into the fish boxes. A few sailfish are taking an interest in boats’ baits as well.

Offshore trollers are finding excellent action with dolphin and wahoo and releasing a few sailfish.
