Wrightsville Beach June 15, 2006
Tex, at Tex’s Tackle, reports good catches of spanish mackerel along all the beaches trolling Yo-zuris or Clark spoons. A few cobia are still hanging around along the inlets and offshore wrecks.
The Dredge Wreck, Schoolhouse, and 23 Mile Rock have all had decent catches of kings and the occasional dolphin.
Grouper are biting well on the ledges offshore of WR4.
Inshore, there are plenty of drum moving around in the surf now, along with flounder. The hard bottoms and inlets are picking up for flounder fishermen as well.
Jot, at Fortune Hunter Too Charters, reports good catches of flounder from the backwaters on live baits.
Redfish are holding in the creeks and along docks.
Sheepshead have arrived around bridges and pilings. They are running up to 5 lbs. and hitting live fiddler crabs.
Out on the beach, the spanish and blues are being caught trolling spoons and plugs. And a few cobia are still around nearshore wrecks and Masonboro Inlet.
Jim, at Plan 9 Charters, reports 10 Mile Rock yielded at least one 25 lb. cobia this week. There’s also been a nice catch of sea bass here. Plenty of bait was in the area, so the kings shouldn't be far behind.
AR-364 has been good for sea bass, jacks, and the occasional flounder.
The Dredge Wreck area has been very good for king mackerel and the occasional dolphin. The 23 Mile Rock has been the most consistent place nearshore to find dolphin, along with plenty of kings and amberjacks.
Matt, at Johnnie Mercer’s Pier, reports that the waters are calming down from the past week’s breezy winds.
Spanish are being caught on plugs, with the largest one of the week weighing 5 lbs. Mullet and 1 lb. trout were also reported.
There have been hookups on kings, but no one has been able to bring one in yet.
