Scott, of The Fishin’ Hole, reports that anglers are hooking some croaker, bluefish, spot, and other bottom feeders while soaking baits in the Rodanthe surf recently.

Anglers have also been seeing some king mackerel from the end of the pier.

Ryan, of Hatteras Jack, reports that anglers are seeing some good sheepshead action around the pilings of the Bonner Bridge. Some spadefish and black drum are mixed in, and all will bite crustaceans like shrimp or sand fleas.

Flounder are feeding around the inlet as well and biting Gulps and live and strip baits.

Surf casters are hooking some fat pompano and sea mullet along with plenty of smaller bottom feeders like croaker and spot. Shrimp and Fish Bites are producing most of the action in the surf.

Anglers casting metal lures from the beach are hooking some spanish mackerel and bluefish when the water’s clean.

 

Sarah, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that panfish like spot and sea mullet have made up most of the surf catch recently, with some pompano mixed in when the water’s clean. Shrimp and Fish Bites baits are fooling most of the bottom feeders.

Surf anglers are also hooking some spanish mackerel on casting lures like Stingsilvers when the water is clean.

Pier fishermen have seen some bites from tarpon and king mackerel while live-baiting over the past week.

Anglers fishing the sound are connecting with a few speckled trout and puppy drum on lures.

 

Bev, of Frisco Tackle, reports that puppy drum, sea mullet, bluefish, and pompano have been making up most of the catch for local surf casters lately. Shrimp, squid, and cut baits fished on the bottom are tempting the fish to bite.

Those casting lures and soaking cut baits in the sound are hooking some slot and over-slot red drum, flounder, and a few speckled trout.

 

Kyle, of Frisco Rod and Gun, reports that anglers are connecting with puppy drum, pompano, sea mullet, and bluefish while soaking baits from Hatteras Island’s southern beaches. Shrimp, sand fleas, and cut baits are producing much of the action. Anglers working metal lures around Hatteras Inlet have also been hooking some spanish mackerel.

Inshore boaters are hooking plenty of slot and over-slot red drum while fishing bait and working artificial lures like weedless spoons in the sound. There’s also been a good spot bite for those fishing smaller baits on bottom rigs.

The offshore fleet has been putting good numbers of dolphin on the docks, along with scattered blackfin tuna and wahoo. Billfishing has also been excellent lately, with solid numbers of blue marlin and sailfish releases along with a few white marlin for boats fishing last week’s Hatteras Grand Slam Tournament. Anglers are hooking most of the offshore predators on naked and skirted ballyhoo, with artificial trolling plugs also accounting for some of the marlin.

 

Jay, of Bite Me Charters, reports that anglers continue to connect with plenty of bailer dolphin while fishing off Hatteras Inlet. Some blackfin tuna have been in the mix recently as well.

Billfish continue to feed offshore, and anglers encountered some blue marlin and sailfish alongside the meatfish last week. Naked and skirted ballyhoo are fooling most of the offshore predators, but anglers are also hooking the dolphin on lighter bailing gear on squid and cut baits.

 

JAM, of Teach’s Lair Marina, reports that trollers have been hooking some citation-class wahoo, blackfin tuna, and dolphin while dragging baits offshore of Hatteras Inlet recently. Bailer dolphin have been landed as close as 2 miles off the beach recently.

Anglers fishing around Hatteras Inlet are still hooking some bluefish and spanish mackerel while trolling Clarkspoons and other lures.

Amberjacks are feeding at structure not far from the beachfront and biting live baits and artificials.

A few cobia are still around and taking an interest in anglers’ baits as well.

Inshore boats continue to connect with plenty of puppy drum back in the sound on baits and artificials. Good numbers of flounder are falling for Gulp baits and squid strips.

Anglers fishing the beachfront found a good spanish mackerel bite around Hatteras Inlet early in the week while working metal casting jigs. Plenty of bluefish are mixed in with spaniards.

Those soaking bait from the beach are connecting with some sea mullet, pompano, flounder, and slot and over-slot red drum.
