Brant, at Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports the full moon has slowed the bite down somewhat, but action will quickly improve.
Plenty of bait has moved into the 55-75’ areas, so the kings and dolphin should follow them in.
Dolphin fishing has been best 10 to 30 miles out, with random hookups of 10 to 15 lb. class fish. Occasionally a boat will find a school of peanuts and load up.
Grouper are biting well, but you’ll need to run to the 90-120’ areas.
Pogies have been along the beaches, with the best concentration around the river.
Stan, at Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports the flounder fishing has been very good lately. Quality fish are coming from Lockwood Folly using live pogies, while better numbers of fish (although much smaller) are being caught in Tubbs Inlet. Mud minnows or small mullet have been working best in there.
A few redfish are being caught at the Little River jetties by fishing the deeper holes with menhaden.
Spadefish are still on the artificial reefs (if the ocean calms down enough to venture out there).
Speckled trout have scattered out and are only occasionally being caught.
Will, at Ocean Isle Pier, reports decent fishing despite muddy water around the pier.
Whiting are biting shrimp.
Sheepshead in the 4-5 lb. class are biting barnacles. Keep baits close to the pilings for best chances.
Fish live minnows around the pilings for flounder action. Several black drum were also caught on minnows this week.
Anglers are catching red drum up to 30″ on live shrimp.
No kings were caught this week, and small sharks made keeping live baits in the water tedious.
The water temperature at the pier is 84 degrees.
