Ryan, of Hatteras Jack, reports that anglers are still seeing action with red drum and flounder around Oregon Inlet and in the sound. Live finger mullet are top choices for both, and anglers can also cast soft plastics like Z-Man and Gulp baits to connect with the inshore predators.

Surf fishermen are still seeing mostly a mix of smaller panfish like spot, sea mullet, and croaker.
Scott, of The Fishin’ Hole, reports that anglers are mostly hooking small bottomfish like spot, sea mullet, and croaker in the local surf. Shrimp and Fish Bites are producing the action with the panfish.

One angler landed a 22” flounder in the sound last week, and some south winds should turn the sound bite on a bit.

Terry, of Rodanthe Pier, reports that anglers working lures like Gotcha plugs from the pier have been hooking a few spanish mackerel and bluefish.

Sea mullet and other panfish are biting bottom rigs anglers are casting around the pier.

 

Sarah, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that anglers have been hooking mostly smaller bottomfish in the local surf, but a large pompano (nearly 3 lbs.) was weighed in this week. Shrimp, Fish Bites, and sand fleas are the best bets for the bottom feeders.

Schools of bluefish and smaller spanish mackerel have moved into range of surf casters at times over the past week, and anglers are hooking them on metal casting jigs.

Sound fishermen continue to connect with a few flounder, puppy drum, and speckled trout while casting baits and lures like soft plastics.

Bob, of Frisco Tackle, reports that pompano, sea mullet, croaker, and other panfish are making up the surf catch for local anglers. A few larger sea mullet and black drum have been mixed in at night, and shrimp are fooling most of the bottom feeders.

Anglers fishing the sound are connecting with some keeper and smaller flounder along with a few puppy drum.

 

Kyle, of Frisco Rod and Gun, reports that anglers are finding plenty of action with croaker, sea mullet, pompano, and other bottom feeders while surf fishing from Hatteras Islands’ southern beaches. Most of the panfish are falling for shrimp, sand fleas, and Fish Bites baits.

Anglers working metal casting jigs around Buxton and Hatteras Inlet have also been connecting with some bluefish and spanish mackerel from the beach.

Inshore boaters are finding plenty of action with spanish mackerel while trolling Clarkspoons and other shiny lures around Hatteras Inlet and in the ocean and sound.

Red drum are still feeding in the sound, and inshore boaters are connecting with solid numbers of slot to citation-sized fish while soaking baits and working lures like spoons and soft plastics.

The offshore fleet is still coming home with big numbers (many limits) of dolphin along with some blackfin tuna and wahoo. Naked and skirted ballyhoo are fooling most of the offshore predators.
