Patrick, at Captain Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that it was a good week for catching drum, trout, and flounder. The primary bait has been Berkley Gulps casting in the creeks and waterway.
The Bonaparte Creek area has been productive for all three. Other areas that are producing include the waterway from Sunset Beach down towards Little River.
The reds have been in the 6 pound range, and there should be some bigger ones around the jetties if you can fight through the bonnet head sharks and ribbonfish.
Mark, at Shallow Minded Guide Fishing, reports that there was good nearshore fishing early in the week at the Jim Caudle Reef. There have been good numbers of flounder, spanish mackerel, bluefish, and gray trout here. Live mullet or pogies are your best bet.
Spanish have also been holding in good numbers around Shallotte Inlet.
The Little River jetties are covered up in ribbonfish, but there’s a little bit of a redfish bite at the tide changes.
On the inside, docks in the waterway have been holding redfish in the 18 to 24 inch range hitting live mullet or fresh crabs. Flounder in the 14 to 17 inch range are hitting around the docks and Sunset Beach Bridge on live baits and Gulps.
