Mark, at Shallow Minded Guide Fishing, reports that fishing has been on and off this past week. Redfish are holding on the jetties and running 27 to 40+ inches. They are all oversized, so beef up the tackle to reduce the stress on the spawning fish. Live pogies or mullet should entice a bite.
Smaller redfish and speckled trout are biting along the banks near Marker 19 on live bait and artificials.
Sunset Beach Bridge is still holding some flounder. They’re eating live mullet.
And live shrimp floated in Bonaparte Creek has been the tactic to find black drum.
Patrick, at Captain Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that fishing has been fairly good. The fall run of big spawning redfish has been on and off, with fish running 26 to 40+ inches out at the jetties. They’re using big mullet for bait.
Inside, in the shallow water around Fort Randall there are some smaller reds in the 18 to 24 inch range being caught. The reds are also holding at the Sunset Beach Bridge area, along with decent numbers of flounder.
There have been some bigger flounder moving around, with a 9.5 lb. flounder as the largest of the week.
The speckled trout are still few and far between, but they should take off any week now.
