Northern Beaches – April 28, 2016

Betty, of TW’s Tackle, reports that anglers are connecting with blow toads and sea mullet up and down the beach south of the Bonner Bridge, and there are some scattered mullet and pufferfish off the Northern Outer Banks shoreline.

Fishing has started to pick up as the water temps rise, and there have been reports of striper and trout at ramp 4, as well as trout off of Nags Head Beach.

The piers have been reporting sea mullet, gray trout, and blow toad catches, including a 3.5 lb. trout caught over the weekend.

Both undersize and keeper stripers have been plentiful from the Little Bridge, and a 13” gray trout was reeled in from the bridge.

Fly rod anglers that have been fishing inshore are hooking up with trout and striper.

Offshore charters have caught a tremendous amount of yellowfin, gaffer dolphin, some citation size blackfin, and wahoo. A sailfish was also recently caught and released.

Deborah, of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, reports that offshore anglers have been bringing in yellowfin, lots of mahi, and hefty wahoo, including a 62 lb. citation catch. Yellowfin fishing has been especially good, and there have also been several citation blackfin caught, including a 23 lb. and a 20 lb. fish.

Inshore vessels have caught and released some sound stripers and have also landed trout.

Michelle, of Jennette’s Pier, reports that anglers have been reeling in pufferfish, sand perch, sea mullet, gray trout, shad, and flounder. Fishermen have been using Fishbites and shrimp for bait.

 

Brian, of Waverunner Sportfishing Charters, reports that there has been really good yellowfin tuna fishing in the past few days southeast of Oregon Inlet on the 550 line. Anglers have been catching their limits, and the tuna are regularly in the 30-45 lb. range.

There have been a few scattered dolphin and wahoo offshore as well.

 

Wayne, of Nags Head Fishing Pier, reports that pier fishermen have caught a few trout, as well as blow toads, skates, and some mullet on shrimp and cut bait.

 

Ed, of Bob’s Bait and Tackle, reports that anglers all along the northern beaches have been catching sea mullet, bluefish, and puffers on shrimp and bloodworms. A few trout have also showed up on the beach and piers, and waters have consistently been in the 55 degree range.

Down on the Little Bridge there have been small stripers and trout.

 

Keith, of Corolla Bait and Tackle, reports that anglers have been catching blow toads, a couple of croakers, dogfish, and skates up and down the beach from Pine Island to Carova. There have also been some medium-sized bluefish catches in the 2-4 lb. range.
