Hunter, at Rod and Reel Shop, reports the surf is only producing a few whiting, but the ones being caught are nice-sized. A few small spots are also being landed, and shrimp is the bait that are working. A few flounder have been reported around the inlets, and speckled trout are up the rivers. Off the beach, the black sea bass are still on the reefs, but a nice run of 40+ miles is needed to reach the king mackerel. When the weather allows, the gulf stream is yielding yellowfin tuna, wahoo, and some nice dolphin.
Jay, at Ocean Isle Pier, reports fishing is very slow, and the only catches have been a few whiting.
