Mike, of Hatteras Jack, reports that there have been bluefish off the Rodanthe Pier and sea mullet all along the beach. There have also been spanish mackerel caught off the Point, and stripers are still hanging around Oregon Inlet.

Red drum are being caught off of Cape Point and Ocracoke when there have been south winds.

Tammy, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that there have been a lot of sea mullet all along the beaches. Anglers have also been reeling in blow toads, quite a few puppy drum, and a handful of small blues.

 

Cameron, of Frisco Tackle, reports that there have been a lot of citation-sized sea mullet, as well as a few pompano and sheepshead off the beach in Hatteras Village.

There have also been big red drum and big bluefish off the Point. Anglers have been using mainly mullet and shrimp for bait.

JAM, of Teach’s Lair, reports that the dolphin bite has really turned on, with a lot of gaffers reeled in. Boats are heading to the south to hook up with the dolphin, and anglers who head north are getting lots of blackfin.

There have also been a couple of sailfish and marlin releases.

Several cobia have been caught around Portsmouth Island.

Beach fishing has been solid with a lot of big drum off of Cape Point and scattered drum all along the southern beaches. There have been bluefish in the surf, along with sea mullet and a few hanger-on blow toads that won’t be around for much longer as the water heats up.

With the rising water temps, anglers are starting to see keeper flounder as well.

 

Jay, of Bite Me Sportfishing, reports that the season is off to a solid start, with wahoo, blackfin, mahi, yellowfin, and bonito reeled in during the first days of the month.

 

Aaron, of Tightline Charters, reports that there have been a lot of bonito in the ocean around the inlet, as well as spanish mackerel and bluefish.

Anglers have also spotted a few cobias off of Ocracoke Island.

 

Leslie, of Rodanthe Pier, reports that there have been bluefish, sea mullet, blow toads, and sheepshead off the pier. Anglers are having success using sand flea-flavored Fishbites and shrimp for bait.

Water temperature is around 60 degrees.

 

Alan, of Tradewinds Tackle, reports that it’s been a good week for big drum. Several citation drum (as well as lots of smaller drum) have been reeled in off the beach. Mullet and menhaden are both great baits for the big drum.

There have been a number of sea mullet and bluefish caught, too. Sea mullet are being caught on shrimp, while bluefish have been reeled in on baiting lures.

Inshore, the boats are also reeling in big drum, and spanish mackerels are starting to show up outside the inlet.

There’s also been gray trout, sea mullet, and bluefish caught inshore.
