The Triumph Boat Owners Tournament has been held the last two year’s at Miramar Boats out of Morehead City, but this year the tournament came to Blackbarry Marine in Southport.
The tournament, limited to Triumph boat owners only, features both an inshore and an offshore division.
The winner of the offshore division was Adam Kynda and Marlin Biggers, who traveled all the way from Cecil County, MD. They brought in a 65 lb. wahoo caught at the Horse Shoe on a cigar minnow. They were fishing on “Afishinado,” a 21’ TE Triumph.
Second place in the offshore division went to Randy Durham, from Raleigh, and Mike Becker, from Topsail, on the 215 Triumph “NCAngler.” They caught a schoolie king at the Shark Hole on dead bait.
The top inshore fish was a 3.68 lb. flounder caught by Jerry Harrison out of Southport. Harrison caught his flatfish on a bucktail and Trout Killer combo fishing in the Lockwood Folly Inlet. Harrison fishes a 190 C Triumph.
The second place inshore fish was also a flounder. Anthony Bridgeman, from Southport, and Leo Griffin, from Boiling Springs, landed a 3.38 lb. flounder near the Southport waterfront on a live mullet. They were fishing on Griffin’s 190 Bay Triumph.
In the Triumph dealers division, Barry Adkins of Blackbarry Marine took top honors with a 7 lb. 14 oz. king caught east of the shoals. He was fishing in a 190 Bay Triumph.
The beneficiary of the 2007 Triumph Boat Owners Tournament was the NC Baptist Children’s Homes, an organization that helps out children and families in crisis situations. Last year they worked with over 2,000 kids and their families.
At the awards dinner, catered by J.D. and R.B., more than $2,200 was donated to the NC Baptist Children’s Homes.
