Mark Dickson, of Shallow Minded Charters, reports good flounder fishing this past week in the cherry grove area as well as the Little River jetties. Bigger fish are coming in now as a 9.2 lb. flounder won the Dixie Chicken tournament over the weekend. Offshore the bite has been in the 100/400 area with mostly dolphin and the best tuna bite came from the Georgetown hole area with dolphin catches there as well. Nearshore the cobia have been hanging around the reefs for anglers to hook up on but no real good king mackerel fishing yet. New reef balls were sunk on the Jim Caudle reef so look for fishing to improve even more there in the coming years. Spadefish are beginning to show up nearshore as well so take some jelly balls out for the next trip bottom fishing. The tidelines forming up outside Little River inlet is full of bluefish and spanish mackerel mostly caught by trolling clark spoons. There are a few specks still being caught around the Sunset Beach bridge so if you can find live shrimp they shouldn’t turn it down.
Cherry Grove Fishing Pier, reports good catches of bluefish on gotcha plugs with a few spanish mackerel mixed in but no kings on the end. Flounder are being caught with one weighing 3 lb. 14 oz. weighed in so the big boys shouldn’t be too far behind. Those bottom fishing are also catching a few nice pomano.
