Mark Dickson, at Shallow Minded Guide Fishing, reports that summer fishing is wide open with great catches of spanish mackerel trolling off Cherry Grove. Flounder are consistent in the 12 to 15 inch range, with a few bigger fish around. Redfish are biting one day and not the next, while gray trout fishing with shrimp off Sunset Beach has been very good for fish in the 14 to 15 inch range. King mackerel are biting cigar minnows pretty well in the 390/390, 410/510, and Myrtle Beach rock areas.
Patrick Kelly, at Captain Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that the Little River jetties have produced some good numbers of flounder on pogies, mullet, and mud minnows. There’s also been a few bonnethead sharks to give anglers a good pull. Red drum fishing has been fair in the flats around Little River on Berkley Gulp baits, and there are also a few flounder biting there to mix up the catch.
Ann, at Cherry Grove Pier, reports that the mackerel fishing has been slow, but bottom fishermen are still picking up a mixed bag of whiting, spots, and black drum. An occasional flounder is biting around the pier as well.
