The Long Bay Artificial Reef Association’s “Club Challenge” was highlighted by a sweep of the King Mackerel and Flounder Divisions by the Charlotte Offshore Sportfishing Club. This was the second straight year for a COSFC sweep.
The COSFC king mackerel attack was led by Bill Luckey’s 30.54 lb. king. Luckey’s fish was also the second largest of the tournament. Andy McCain (28.18), Aaron McPherson (23.22), Will Lander (17.98), and Steve Sherron (17.60) boosted the five fish total to the winning 118 pounds.
Al Fulford’s tournament high king of 32.36 lbs., with help from Phil and Judy Brock, Randy Robinson, and Lin Creech, put Holden Beach Fishing Club into second place overall.
The Winston Salem Saltwater Fishing Club, led by Travis Everhart and Dieter Cardwell, finished in third place.
COSFC defense of their flounder crown seemed in jeopardy during the early stages of weigh in as the S.A.L.T. fishing club of Southport brought more and more fish to the scales. The five largest fish per club counts towards the title, but only three fish per boat counts. Andy Fisher weighed three flounder, with one being the tournament’s largest at 3.52 lbs. This gave him individual honors for the second straight year.
With S.A.L.T. in the lead, David Isenhour of COSFC brought his only two fish of the day to the scales and boosted COSFC over the top. S.A.L.T., led by Brian Baker, Monroe Brady, and Chick Eames, finished second. Winston Salem Saltwater Fishing Club, led by Steve Craven and Craig Newnam, finished third.
A total of six clubs participated raising over $13,000.00 in tournament fees and donations for the Long Bay Artificial Reef Association (www.lbara.com).
