Greg, at The Reel Outdoors, reports that areas from 2-8 miles off the beach continue to do well with kings. Some areas to hit are Key Post, 45 Minute Rock, and SE Bottom. The kings have been running 5-12 lbs., with a few fish in the teens and 20 lb. class.
Dolphin have also been in the 2-8 mile areas. They’ve been running 5-10 lbs.
The SE Bottom has also had 3-4 wahoo caught there recently. This is the usual time of year that the wahoo show here. You can also expect an occasional sailfish.
Inshore, there have been some reds on the flats and flounder in the inlets.
Surf fishing has been a little slow. Pompano is the best bite right now in the surf, with several 1-3 lb. fish recently caught.
Rhonda, at Bogue Inlet Pier, reports that over the weekend the pier saw a few spanish and blues in the mornings and evenings. The best action was an improved flounder bite. There were several fish in the 2-3 lb. class, with the biggest weighing 4 lbs. The flounder hit throughout the day, and they were using shrimp and live minnows. Some pompano (1-2 lb. class) were landed, with shrimp and sand fleas as the bait to use. The pier also saw a few spots and a few gray trout.
