Capt. Mark Dickson, at Shallow Minded Guide Fishing, reports good fishing for stripers in the 3 to 4 lb. range in the waterway on artificials. Redfish and flounder are biting well in the creeks and waterway. The big flounder of the week was a 6 pounder.
There are plenty of shrimp and mullet still around in the creeks. A few trout have begun to bite in the creeks around Calabash and at the Little River jetties.
The kings are biting at Myrtle Beach Rocks, 410/510, and 90/90.
Capt. Patrick Kelly, at Captain Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports good red drum action from the jetties to the creeks off the waterway. The jetty is holding the big adult drum, but they have been hit or miss fishing with live mullet. The bite has been better for the 18 to 24 inch class fish in the creeks on falling tides using Gulp baits. The old faithful Johnson spoon is also working well on the high tide when the redfish are up in the grass.
The flounder are in most of the same areas (averaging around 2 lbs.) and will take a Gulp or a live mullet. Speckled trout are moving around more, with good catches on live shrimp in Dunn Sound.
Ann, at Cherry Grove Pier, reports a few spots have arrived, but they are still waiting for the big run. Meanwhile, a few whiting and pompano are being caught.
Sheepshead are around and will eat crabs, clams, or barnacles. Flounder are also around, and they are preferring live mullets. No king runs, but they should be moving down the beach any week now.
