Mark Dickson, at Shallow Minded Charters, reports winter fishing is starting to set in. Most of the bait is gone, but the speckled trout and redfish are still biting fairly well. Good spots for trout have been the jetties and Coquina Harbor.
Reds are biting around the Sunset Beach Bridge and in the East River. The reds are beginning to school up in the shallows as well, making for sight fishing opportunities. Berkley gulps have been the best baits for both species.
A few stripers are being caught at the Little River swing bridge, mostly on Rattletraps. Out in the ocean the sea bass are biting fairly well. They’re nearshore in at least 50 foot of water.
Patrick Kelly, of Captain Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports better than average fishing in the Little River area. Drum, trout, and flounder have all been caught in the waterway around creek mouths and shell banks.
The Sunset Beach Bridge has been a hotspot for reds and specks. Berkley Gulps, live shrimp, and live mullet have been the best baits so far.
Fort Randall has been a good place to try for bigger trout (up to 6 pounds) as well as a few stripers and redfish. Coquina Harbor has been another good spot for trout using, but expect them to run smaller. Go with curly tail grubs and live mullet.
Ann, at Cherry Grove Pier, reports good fishing still exists if the weather allows it. Flounder are still being caught on warm days, and a few spot runs are still occurring. Whiting and bluefish are still in the area eating bottom rigs. A few speckled trout are showing as the water cools.
