Rhett, of the Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports that wahoo are very plentiful right now at the gulf stream. Boats are finding multiple catches in 150 to 200′ of water, all the way from the Georgetown Hole up to Morehead. They’ve also been regularly hooking dolphin and blackfin tuna. The bottom fishing has also been strong. Guys are killing the grouper and snapper in 90 to 110′ of water. The kings are thick in the Southport river channel. The bite turned hot on Sunday when the wind changed direction. Speckled trout are showing up in numbers at Little River, Shallotte River, Calabash River, and Sauce Pan Creek. And black and red drum catches are coming from feeder creeks on the falling tide.
