Rhett, of Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports there isn’t any major action inshore right now. Several flounder have been caught on Carolina rigs with finger mullet in the canals, around the Shallotte River, and in Tubbs Inlet. There have also been puppy drum and speckled trout taken from the inlet. The trout are not only in clean water anymore. Tthey’re being caught in various conditions now. Offshore, gray trout have been caught on artificial reefs. King mackerel are running strong from the beach to 80 feet of water. The wahoo bite has also been strong. A trip last week to the Steeples landed three wahoo (50, 58, and 76 lbs.).
Howard, of Ocean Isle Beach Pier, reports that the spot run has slowed down. Folks are catching some flounder, fewer drum, and blues on artificial baits. There is also some whiting around. The flounder, however, has been the main action.
