Mark, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing Charters, reports that the flounder bite continues to improve near Tubbs and Cherry Grove Inlets. Better numbers of the fish are keepers than a few weeks ago (with some to 6+ lbs. caught lately). Live peanut pogies are producing most of the better fish, with mud minnows attracting more attention from the sublegal ones.
Speckled trout and red drum (most 25-30”+) are feeding along the rocks at the Little River jetties, and float-rigged live shrimp have been producing plenty of action with both.
There are plenty of reds feeding inshore, too (most are smaller fish from 18-24”). The red bite inside’s been best around Dunn Sound and Bonaparte Creek. Live mud minnows and shrimp or Gulp shrimp on Mission Fishin’ jigheads are the go-to red baits inshore.
The speckled trout action is still decent around Sunset Beach Bridge. Billy Bay Halo Shrimp under popping corks are fooling the specks inside.
Jeff Boger, John Gore, Mark Cooley, Heath Jones, Scott Quaintance, and Eddie Julian with six wahoo and a pair of blackfin tuna they hooked while trolling ballyhoo around the Blackjack Hole aboard Island Style Custom Yachts hull #1, a custom Carolina express sportfisherman built locally by Quaintance.
Patrick, of Capt. Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that the inshore fishing in the area has improved dramatically.
Sunset Beach Bridge has been home to a variety of action lately, with anglers landing black and red drum, speckled trout, and flounder on live shrimp pinned to light split-shot rigs.
The flounder bite has been excellent at nearby Tubbs Inlet and at Cherry Grove to the west. Live mud minnows on Carolina rigs are fooling most of the flatties. A few trout are feeding in Tubbs as well.
Fishing the drains in the ICW is producing action with reds and flounder, and the best bite seems to be right against the grass.
Anglers are also picking up reds, flounder, and some black drum in Dunn Sound. Live mud minnows and shrimp, as well as Gulp and D.O.A. shrimp imitations, are fooling all the fish.
Sue, of Fish-On Outfitters, reports that the flounder bite has been excellent in Cherry Grove lately. Most of the fish are falling for live mud minnows.
Speckled trout and red drum are biting in the ICW. Shrimp have been attracting attention from both.
Brendan, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports that bottom fishermen are decking good numbers of whiting and some smaller flounder on shrimp.
Spanish mackerel and bluefish are feeding heavily near the pier, and mackerel tree rigs and Gotcha plugs are fooling plenty of both.
