Mark, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing, reports that anglers are catching big numbers of juvenile red drum inshore around Dunn Sound and other shallow areas. Live shrimp on Mission Fishin’ jigheads are proving irresistible to the little reds.
The hot variety fishing around the Little River jetties remains consistent. Anglers are catching some larger reds (to 30”), black drum in the same size class, bonnethead sharks, gray and speckled trout, flounder, and more while drifting though the inlet with live shrimp and finger mullet. Incoming tides tend to produce the best bite around the jetties.
Spanish mackerel are also feeding in the inlet, and anglers can hook up with them while casting MirrOminnows and Deadly Dicks to schools feeding on mullet and glass minnows on the surface.
Drifting around the sandbars inside the inlet is producing plenty of action with flounder (some undersized, but plenty of healthy keepers in the mix as well). Tubbs Inlet has also been producing solid flounder action lately, and anglers caught a few (including a 5 lb. citation) around Sunset Beach Bridge as well.
Patrick, of Capt. Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that anglers are catching big numbers of black drum while casting live shrimp on light jigheads and split-shot rigs in Dunn Sound.
The area’s shallow creeks have been producing plenty of action with smaller red drum and some flounder (including a 7 lb. doormat caught this week). Live shrimp are producing results on the reds and the flounder, too.
Anglers drifting through Little River Inlet are connecting with bonnethead sharks, flounder, gray and speckled trout, and more on live shrimp.
Bryan, of Fish-On Outfitters, reports that the fishing back in Cherry Grove is improving. Anglers are hooking up with excellent numbers of flounder along with some red drum and speckled and gray trout while fishing the marsh and creeks in the area.
Plenty of finger mullet and peanut pogies are working through Cherry Grove as well, so anglers should have little difficulty loading up on live baits.
Mike, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports that anglers had a big week on flounder (most 16-18”), with most of the fish falling for live finger mullet.
Anglers also hooked a decent number of red drum while flounder fishing.
Bottom fishermen are connecting with whiting and bluefish.
Spanish mackerel are still feeding near the pier, and anglers drifting small live baits on float rigs caught more and larger fish than those working lures last week.
