Capt. Dave Tilley, of FryingPanTower.com, reports that offshore the dolphin and king mackerel are plentiful around all the area wrecks and weedlines. Rigged ballyhoo are the way to play.
Inshore, the spanish mackerel have been plentiful up and down the coast. Limits are being hit almost every day.
The grouper are biting well. Gags are being caught as close as 10 miles. Reds are in the 20-30 mile range, and scamps are in the 25 plus range. Cigar minnows, squid, and cut bait will do the trick.
The black sea bass are chewing on the area rocks. They are easy to catch and great to eat.
Robbie, at Seagull Bait and Tackle, reports that the flounder bite did well on the inside, mostly in the inlet and the river. They weighed in several in the 5-6 pound class, and the heaviest of the week weighed over 7 pounds.
The surf is producing lots of small Virginia mullet and pompano. There are, however, a few big fish mixed in, like the 3.2 lb. pompano weighed in this week.
Off the beach the action has still been spanish and kings. They’re out there waiting to be caught. Guys have also been catching some big sharks at night, with a couple weighed in at over 100 pounds.
John’s Creek has seen some flounder and gray trout recently. No reds out of the ocean, but they’re biting well in the river. And the rock wall is holding some small trout.
