Carolina Beach Parks & Recreation had over 170 kids show up for the 11th annual Youth Pier Fishing Tournament at the Kure Beach Pier on Saturday, June 4, 2005.
The kids and their parents were lined up early, some waiting in line at 5:15 am to receive their fishing rod & reel, bait, and t-shirt (all for only $1.00).
The rain held off for the tournament, but the fish just did not show up. There were, however, a couple of great catches to win the tournament in each age division.
In the 10-15 year old division, Jack Twisdale came in first place, winning $50.00. Jack had the largest catch of the day, a 1.70 pound flounder. Second place went to Dillon Brown, and third went to Dylan Kaeding.
In the 5-9 year old division, Liston Lockamy, also winning $50.00, came in first place. Austin Gore came in second, and Morgan Carpenter came in third. Morgan was the one female able to break up the boys’ monopoly of the leader board.
Carolina Beach Parks & Recreation also raffled off many prizes to the kids who participated. The Recreation Department would like to thank all of their sponsors: Town of Carolina Beach, Kure Beach Pier, Island Tackle True Value, Blackburn Brothers Seafood, Seagull Bait & Tackle, Got-Em-On Live Bait Club, Doug Cooper, and the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee members who volunteer their time to the community.
