Crocker’s Marine hosted their Customers Tournament on July 30. A strong wind and five-foot seas made the offshore competition limited, but a number of boats pursued the inshore division. There were 82 boats entered in this year’s event, and Kay Crocker also noted that this year the tournament attracted more kids than ever before.

The big winner in the Adult Division was the “Big Boy,” a 26′ Sailfish. Todd Lewis, Steve Bunch, and Brendan King went offshore about 10 miles to bring in the heaviest king, the heaviest spanish, and the heaviest dolphin. “Big Boy” reported conditions of steady 5′ seas, with some 6′ and 7′ mixed in. They trolled out to the 10 Mile Rock, then trolled over to the 10 Mile Boxcars, and then trolled into about 4 miles off the beach.
Their 4.85 lb. king was the only king weighed in the tournament. They won a free entry into the Wrightsville Beach King Mackerel Tournament for having the heaviest king of the tournament.

“Big Boy’s” heaviest spanish weighed 3.5 lbs. Phil Everheart took second with a 1.15 lb. spanish.

“Big Boy” also won the dolphin category with an 11.9 lb. fish. Chris Wagett came in second with a 5.95 lb. dolphin.

The bluefish category was won by Chip Linens with a 1.65 lb. blue. Second place went to Matt Church and a 1.1 lb. blue.

William Strong won the flounder division with a 2.85 lb. flounder. Donnie Evans took second with a 1.7 lb. flounder. Casey George and Marshall Mansolillo both weighed in a .25 lb. Virginia mullet, with George getting the win for weighing in first.

The Kids Division had several kids place more than once. One of the big winners was Jordan Gurley. He took first place in pigfish with a .3 lb. fish. Chase Peterson came in second with a .2 lb. pigfish.

The pinfish category, a very competitive group, was won by Blake Bedson with a .35 lb. pinfish. Jordan Gurley came in second with a .2 lb. pinfish.

The heaviest flounder came from Dylan Shanklin with a 1.40 lb. fish. Garrett Powell with a 1.35 lb. flounder came in second.

The heaviest blue also came from Garrett Powell. It weighed 1.40 lbs. Jason Leonard took second with a 1.2 lb. blue.

Haley Grant brought in a meaty .55 lb. Virginia mullet to win that category. She was followed by Jordan Gurley with a .20 lb. mullet.

Carolyne Folz got an honorable mention from the tournament. There wasn’t a red drum category, but she caught a 9.41 lb. red during the tournament.
