Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation’s 2010 Youth Fishing Derby attracted 56 children to Bogue Inlet Pier for a fun-filled morning of competition on Saturday, June 5.
A 21” remora earned the victory in the friendly competition for Matthew Pfaff. Grace Goff earned second place with a 15” cobia. Taylor Davis’s 15” spanish mackerel took third place, and Austin Cancellarich earned fourth for a 12.5” pompano.
Daquan Dillahunt captured the event’s 7 and Under Boys Most Fish Caught crown with 17, while 5 fish earned the 7 and Under Girls title for Taylor Jarret. Tyler Paredes decked 9 fish to take home the 8 and Up Boys award, and Grace Goff’s 7 fish won the 8 and Up Girls category.
Every one of the 56 participating children in the event took home a complimentary bag full of goodies from local merchants and a Youth Fishing Derby T-Shirt. K & V Grocery donated bait for all the participants in memory of Dustin Dawson.
