The Far Out Shoot Out, held at Ocean Isle Fishing center over the weekend of May 27-29, had 38 boats participate.
There were five boats that chose to fish Saturday (boats could choose their one day to fish). After day one, “Crew’s Missile” was leading with 41 points.
The remaining 33 boats fished under perfect conditions on Sunday, and the leader board was shuffled around by the end of the day.
The crew of Lee, Nathan and Andy Frick and Steve Stirewalt aboard the “Island Time” weighed the tournament’s only yellowfin tuna, a 25 pound fish. They also weighed in a 20 pound dolphin and a 28 pound wahoo for a 73 point total and the overall win.
Jeremy and Jason Foster fished their boat “Team Palmetto” and landed the tournament’s largest fish. Their 43 pound wahoo won the meatfish TWT, the largest wahoo, as well as second overall with 59 points.
The “Crews Missile” team held onto third place overall with 41 points. They also won the largest dolphin award with a 25 pounder.
Fourth place went to offshore newcomer Steve Kjellbag aboard the “Reel Wet.” He had a 38 point total.
The fishing was pretty consistent from the Steeples to the Winyah Scarp; however, both the top two teams fished the Scarp area.
