The weather forecast scared away a few boats, but conditions were surprisingly favorable for this year’s Frantic Atlantic Annual Saltwater Classics King Mackerel Tournament. “Conditions turned out good for those who fished,” said Larry Fowler, Tourney Director. Corporate Sponsors Hydra-Sports and Loadmaster Trailers allowed HD Spokes Saloon to guarantee over $35,000 in prize money this year.

Rescheduled due to Hurricanes Bonnie and Charley, the Frantic Atlantic squeezed all (insert # of Fish Caught) fish into one day of fishing, with (# of Boats) boats fighting for them. Seventeen teams weighed-in kings, with weights ranging from 11.88 lbs. to 32.4 lbs., at Pugh’s Marina in North Myrtle Beach.

With a 32.4 lb. fish, Captain Dean Spatholt of “Fish Meister” pocketed $10,000 and 1st place honors for his winning king. “Tailwalker” and her crew from Tailwalker Marine took home $5,000 and 2nd place for their 31.4 lb. second place king. Captain Alan Richey of “Knot Guilty” left with a $2,500 3rd place finish for his 28.3 lb. kingfish.

Rounding out the top ten finishers for biggest kingfish were “Carolina Contender,” captained by Brant McMullan with a 26.68 lb. king; “Jet Set,” captained by Chris Vines with a 26.20 lb. fish; “Blue Runner,” captained by Craig Hoover with a 26.04 lb. king; “Juggernaut,” captained by Bert Harvey took 7th place with a 25.7 lb. king; “Yates Sea,” captained by Dave C. Yates took 8th with a 21.8 lb. fish; 9th went to a 20.58 lb. king caught by “Carolina Cocky” and Captain Gene Seiveno; and finally tenth place went to Captain Jamey Stewart and “Black Cat” for their 20.4 lb. king.
