Ryan, of Hatteras Jack, reports that anglers in the Rodanthe area have primarily been catching sea mullet and pufferfish off the beach, landing an occasional puppy drum or bluefish.
The Pamlico Sound waters have started to warm up, and drum in the sound should start to show up soon.
A few schooling stripers have been hanging around the channel markers in Rodanthe.
Tammy, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that anglers have caught sea mullet and blow toads up and down the beach from Rodanthe Pier to Hatteras Inlet. The water has been dirty, so bloodworms and shrimp have been the best bet. There have also been small blues, puppy drum, and gray trout caught off the beach.
Beverly, of Frisco Tackle, reports that anglers have been catching bluefish, sea mullet, and blow toads all along the beaches, as well as black drum, gray trout, and puppy drum. Anglers have been using a lot of shrimp, bunker, and finger mullet.
Aaron, of Tightline Charters, reports that there have been lots of bluefish in the 2-4 lb. range, as well as a few puppy drum inshore. There’s also been some big red drum outside of the inlet and reports of gray trout on the wrecks (about three miles off the beach).
Jay, of Bite Me Sportfishing, reports that offshore anglers are reeling in blackfin tuna in the 10-20 lb. range. There were also dolphin and some lightly scattered wahoo reported.
JAM, of Teach’s Lair, reports the blackfin tuna catch has been exceptional, with reports of 33 catches on one boat and 37 catches on another boat in a single day. There have also been a handful of dolphin as well.
Bluefish, gray trout, and sea mullet are the reported catches off the beach.
Debbie, of Rodanthe Pier, reports that anglers have reeled in blow toads and a few decent-sized sea mullet (up to 1.75 lbs.). There have also been gray trout, puppy drum, and baby stripers off the pier. Anglers have been using mostly shrimp and bloodworms for bait.
Big bluefish have been landed off the soundside, and these fish might start making an appearance by the Rodanthe Pier in the next couple of weeks.
Alan, of Tradewinds Tackle, reports that there have been catches of red drum, black drum, bluefish, sea mullet, small flounder, and a few blow toads off the beach on both the southern and northern ends of the island. Anglers are using all kinds of bait, including mullet, shrimp, and squid.
In the sound, there have been reports of gray trout and bluefish.
