Bryant, of The Fishin’ Hole, reports that anglers are hooking some spot, sea mullet, and a few pompano while bottom fishing in the local surf. Shrimp and bloodworms are fooling most of the fish.
A few flounder have also been feeding in the surf and biting Gulp and strip baits.
Anglers are hooking more flounder while casting soft plastics and live baits around Oregon Inlet.
Sheepshead are feeding along the pilings of the Bonner Bridge and biting sand fleas and other baits.
The puppy drum action is still going strong in the sound at night, and cut baits and finger mullet are getting the job done.
Jim, of Rodanthe Pier, reports that panfish like spot, sea mullet, and croaker are producing most of the action for bottom fishermen at present, with shrimp and bloodworms the best baits.
When the water’s clean, plug casters are hooking some bluefish and spanish mackerel while working Gotchas from the pier.
Clean water has also been producing some king mackerel action, and the pier’s been averaging a fish a day when conditions are right.

Sound fishermen are reporting plenty of action with speckled trout, puppy drum, and flounder on live and cut baits, along with a variety of artificials.
Kyle, of Frisco Rod and Gun, reports that anglers saw some decent surf action from Hatteras Island’s southern beaches before the front roughened the ocean at the beginning of the week. Anglers from Buxton to Hatteras were seeing sea mullet, pompano, bluefish, croaker, and some puppy drum, and the action should still be going when things calm down. A few spanish mackerel and bluefish have been biting casting lures like Stingsilvers in the surf when conditions are clean.
Inshore boaters are still finding plenty of puppy drum in the Pamlico Sound and hooking them on gold spoons, soft plastics, and other baits. Some flounder, bluefish, and gray and speckled trout have been in the mix recently as well.
The offshore fleet is still finding some excellent wahoo action off Hatteras Inlet when the wind lets the boats get out. Some dolphin, blackfin tuna, and king mackerel have been feeding alongside the wahoo, and all the pelagic predators are taking an interest in naked and skirted ballyhoo. Boats have also released a few sailfish and blue marlin over the past week.
Offshore bottom fishing is producing plenty of action with tasty targets like tilefish and triggerfish.
JAM, of Teach’s Lair Marina, reports that inshore boaters are connecting with plenty of slot-sized puppy drum while working artificials and soaking cut baits in the sound.
The offshore fleet has been kept tied up due to the wind over the past few days, but the excellent wahoo bite was still going when they were last able to get out. Big numbers of bailer dolphin have also been found recently by many boats, too, and there seem to be good numbers of sailfish feeding in the blue water right now as well. Ballyhoo paired with skirted trolling lures are fooling most of the offshore predators.
The heavy winds and surf have also kept anglers off the beaches, but the solid sea mullet and pompano action should still be going when things calm down. Anglers have also been catching a few spanish mackerel and bluefish from the beach on metal casting lures recently.
