Ryan, of Hatteras Jack, reports that anglers continue to connect with sea mullet, croaker, spot, and other bottom feeders while surf fishing Hatteras Island’s northern beaches. A few puppy drum and bluefish are mixed in. Shrimp and cut baits are fooling most of the fish along the beachfront.
Decent numbers of flounder are showing up around Oregon Inlet and along the beaches (with plenty of undersized fish but keepers also in the mix). Anglers are fooling them with soft baits like Gulps and strip baits.
Sheepshead are feeding around the pilings of the Bonner Bridge, and anglers are hooking the striped fish while soaking sand fleas and other baits from the catwalk.
Steve, of The Fishin’ Hole, reports that anglers are hooking some sea mullet, spot, and croaker while fishing shrimp and bloodworms in the local surf.
A few puppy drum have been around as well.
Kelly, of Rodanthe Pier, reports that anglers have been landing sea mullet, croaker, ribbonfish, and some smaller blacktip sharks recently.
The water is 75 degrees.
Sarah, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that croaker, spot, sea mullet, and a few puppy drum have been feeding in the surf near Avon, and they’re biting shrimp and cut baits.
Some flounder are also around (including keepers) and biting squid strips.
Bev, of Frisco Tackle, reports that anglers are hooking sea mullet, pompano, and undersized flounder while casting shrimp, sand fleas, and bloodworms into the local surf.
Some cobia have been biting cut baits around Cape Point and Hatteras Inlet, and boaters are hooking good numbers while sight-casting artificials.
Spanish mackerel and bluefish are also feeding along the beachfront and attacking metal casting lures.
The red drum bite has improved in the sound, where anglers are hooking fish on both bait and artificials.
Kyle, of Frisco Rod and Gun, reports that anglers are connecting with sea mullet, pompano, croaker, sheepshead (some to 10+ lbs.), and puppy drum from Hatteras Island’s southern shoreline. Shrimp, sand fleas, and cut baits are all producing results in the surf.
Inshore boaters are hooking slot and over-slot puppy drum while soaking baits and casting lures like gold spoons. Gray trout, flounder, and some chopper bluefish have been mixed in in the sound.
Cobia are still feeding around Hatteras Inlet and Diamond Shoals, and they’re falling for sight-cast artificals.
The offshore fleet is still seeing solid hauls of gaffer and bailer dolphin on most days, with a few wahoo and blackfin tuna adding variety to the fish boxes. Ballyhoo and skirted trolling lures are fooling all the pelagics.
Bottom fishing offshore is adding some tasty grouper, beeliners, amberjack, and triggerfish to the catch.
JAM, of Teach’s Lair Marina, reports that anglers continue to see plenty of action with dolphin offshore of Hatteras Inlet.
Triggerfish, beeliners, grouper, and more are falling for squid and cut baits that anglers are dropping to offshore bottom structure.
Amberjacks are schooled up in many of the same areas and biting live baits and vertical jigs.
Inshore, there have been plenty of bluefish and spanish mackerel falling for Clarkspoons trolled around Hatteras Inlet.
Cobia are still feeding in the same area and biting live baits, buctkail jigs, and other offerings.
Surf casters are reporting plenty of pompano action, primarily on shrimp and sand fleas fished on fluorocarbon bottom rigs.
Some bluefish, puppy drum, and sheepshead are also falling for surf casters’ baits.
Jay, of Bite Me Sport Fishing, reports that anglers are still seeing plenty of gaffer dolphin while trolling offshore of Hatteras Inlet, and they’re hooking them on naked and skirted ballyhoo.
Blue marlin are around as well, and sightings of the giant fish have been relatively common over the past week.
Some blackfin tuna and wahoo have been joining the dolphin in the fish box.
Melinda, of Tradewinds Tackle, reports that anglers are hooking some fat pompano and sea mullet while fishing shrimp and sand fleas from Ocracoke’s shoreline.
Some keeper and over-slot puppy drum and a few large bluefish have been mixed in with the surf catch. Cut baits are fooling both.
