Ryan, of Hatteras Jack, reports that anglers are hooking plenty of panfish in the surf around Rodanthe, including sea mullet, spot, pompano, and more. Shrimp, sand fleas, and bloodworms are fooling the bottom feeders. A few puppy drum are around and biting the same baits.
Some larger red drum are feeding around Oregon Inlet, where anglers can hook them on cut or live baits on the bottom.
Sheepshead, tautog, and black drum are looking for meals around the pilings of the Bonner Bridge, and dangling sand fleas, fiddler crabs, or other crustacean baits close to the pilings will get their attention.
Kelly, of Rodanthe Pier, reports that there’s been solid action with spot, pompano, and sea mullet for bottom fishermen baiting up with shrimp and bloodworms. Some puppy drum and a gray trout were also landed last week.
Plug casters are hooking bluefish on Gotchas along with some spanish mackerel when the water is clean.
Sarah, of Frank and Fran’s, reports that surf casters are hooking some bluefish, croaker, sea mullet, and spot up and down Hatteras Island’s beaches. Some pompano and puppy drum have been in the mix around Avon as well. Shrimp, sand fleas, bloodworms, and cut baits are all solid choices for anglers casting into the breakers.
A few flounder are mixed in with the other fish around Hatteras.
Anglers casting live baits and artificials in the sound are connecting with some speckled trout and puppy drum.
Bob, of Frisco Tackle, reports that anglers are hooking bluefish while casting metal lures like Glass Minnows from the beaches early and late in the day. A few smaller spanish mackerel have been mixed in around Cape Point.
Bottom fishing in the surf is producing plenty of action with pompano and sea mullet, along with some flounder, black drum, and puppy drum. Shrimp, sand fleas, and bloodworms are getting attention from the bottom feeders.

Anglers casting soft plastic baits in the sound are connecting with solid numbers of puppy drum.
Kyle, of Frisco Rod and Gun, reports that anglers are hooking flounder, bluefish, sea mullet, puppy drum, and more from the surf of Hatteras’s southern beaches. Shrimp and sand fleas are fooling most of the fish. Gulps, strip baits, and live baits are the way to go for the flatfish.
Inshore boaters are hooking plenty of flounder, speckled and gray trout, bluefish, and puppy drum. Soft plastics and live baits are producing most of the action in the sound.
The offshore fleet has found some limit catches of yellowfin tuna in recent days, along with blackfin tuna, gaffer and bailer dolphin, and wahoo. Some blue and white marlin and sailfish have been mixed in with the meatfish, and they’re also taking an interest in boats’ trolling spreads.
Naked and skirted ballyhoo are fooling the offshore predators.
JAM, of Teach’s Lair Marina, reports that there’s been some stellar blue water action lately, with big numbers of blackfin and yellowfin tuna hitting the docks. Some wahoo and dolphin are feeding alongside the tuna, and boats are also releasing some billfish.
Inshore, there’s been excellent flounder fishing for boats working the sound near Hatteras Inlet. Gulp baits and strip baits are tempting most of the bites from the flatfish.
Some puppy drum and gray and speckled trout are also looking for meals in the sound, and they’re falling for Gulps and other soft plastics.
Surf casters are hooking some spanish mackerel, bluefish, and puppy drum while casting metal lures from the beaches.
Anglers baiting River Rigs up with shrimp and sand fleas are finding plenty of action with sea mullet and pompano.
Cody, of Tradewinds Tackle, reports that anglers are hooking some sea mullet, puppy drum, and a few flounder from the Ocracoke beachfront. Sand fleas, shrimp, and cut baits are fooling most of the fish in the surf.
