Jas, at Sportsman’s Pier, reports that the catch has been mostly blues. Many people are catching them in the 7 to 10 lb. range. During one run the pier had 30 to 40 of the Hatteras-sized blues landed. There have been some spanish, with most in the 1 to 3 lb. range. They landed a black drum over the weekend weighing just about 8 lbs. There have also been some catches of hogfish, mullet, and spots, and the pier had a few pompano in the 1 to 1.5 lb. range.
Ken, at Triple “S” Pier, reports that lots of blues were landed over the weekend. There were small blues caught, but several blues came in weighing from 5 to 11 lbs. The biggest of the weekend went 11.75 lbs. The spanish are also in good. Monday morning they even bit well on the low tide. Then after a couple of runs the bite turned to blues. The strong bluefish bite has slowed the bottom fishing, but they have still picked up some small sea mullets and a pompano weighing 1 lb. 15 oz. There was also an odd catch of a small sheepshead, the first of the season.
Paul, at Freeman’s Bait and Tackle, reports that the cobia fishing has picked up well over the past week.
