Mark, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing Charters, reports that anglers are finding plenty of action with spanish mackerel and bluefish outside Little River Inlet when falling tides are pushing mullet out of the jetties. Both are falling for topwater plugs and suspending lure like MirrOdines worked around bait schools and other surface activity. A 3-4” leader of light wire in front of the plugs will keep the toothy fish from swimming off with them.

Anglers are still finding some healthy (3-4 lbs.) flounder at nearshore structure like the Jim Caudle Reef, but the bite has been a bit hit-or-miss. When they’re feeding, live finger mullet are fooling the flatfish.

More flounder (but less big ones) and some red drum are looking for meals in Tubbs Inlet. Live finger mullet on jigheads and Carolina rigs are attracting attention from both fish.

There’s been a decent speckled trout bite around ICW structure like the Sunset Beach Bridge. Most of the specks are biting live shrimp fished under floats near the structure.

Black drum are looking for meals around docks along the ICW and connecting waters. Anglers can tempt the black drum to bite live or cut shrimp fished close to the structure.

Patrick, of Capt. Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that there’s been a decent red rum bite in the area’s backwaters like Dunn Sound, Bonaparte Creek, and Tubbs Inlet recently. Most of the reds are falling for live shrimp and finger mullet on jigheads and Carolina rigs.

Good numbers of flounder are also feeding in Tubbs Inlet and taking an interest in the finger mullet.

Anglers are encountering some speckled trout along grass and shell banks near Little River and Calabash. The specks are pouncing on live shrimp drifted along the banks beneath floats.
Anglers are also hooking some large croaker on bottom rigs baited with cut shrimp while fishing around deeper inshore holes and shell bottoms.
