Mark Dickson, of Shallow Minded Guide Fishing, reports excellent redfishing at the Little River jetties. The drum have been mostly over the slot, which in SC is 24″. Fish have been right up on the rocks and are hitting grubs or live mud minnows. A few speckled trout are also mixed in along the rocks, and they are mostly 3 to 5 lb. fish.
Just outside the jetties, the tideline is full of spanish mackerel, and keep your eyes peeled for a shot at a cobia which are scattered nearshore. Spadefish are being caught at the Sherman wreck. Jellyballs have been hard to come by, so use peeled fresh shrimp or fresh squid.
King mackerel fishing is good, but fish have been small with a good bite around the 90/90 and some bigger kings around the Jungle. Gulf stream fishing has slowed down somewhat, but the long run is not needed for smaller dolphin as they are moving inshore into the 20 to 25 mile range.
Patrick Kelly, of Captain Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports a week full of catches of redfish and flounder. The reds are being caught on the Little River jetties and by sight casting in the creeks. Bites have been on artificials, with most coming on the Gulp baits in shrimp and sinking minnow patterns. The flounder action has been around Tubbs Inlet with live mud minnows. There are still some specks, but they have been smaller this week.
