Brett Beane, of Asheboro, NC, with a 21″ flounder that struck a Carolina-rigged finger mullet beneath the Ocean Isle Beach bridge.
Mark, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing Charters, reports that anglers are hooking some red drum in Bonaparte Creek. They’re biting live finger mullet and shrimp on jigheads and Carolina rigs.
Some larger over-slot reds are feeding around the ends of the Little River jetties. Anglers are hooking them on finger mullet and menhaden.
Flounder are looking for meals in Tubbs Inlet and at the Jim Caudle Reef. Both finger mullet and menhaden on Carolina rigs are getting attention from the flatfish.
Speckled trout are feeding around the Little River jetties, but the bite’s been hard to predict recently. Live shrimp drifted under floats will fool the specks when they’re in a biting mood.
Patrick, of Capt. Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that anglers are connecting with solid numbers of flounder while fishing around Tubbs Inlet. They’re biting live mud minnows and finger mullet on Carolina rigs and jigheads, along with Gulp baits.
Stephen Williams, of Horry County, SC, with a big spanish mackerel that bit a cigar minnow at some live bottom 10 miles off Oak Island while he was fishing on the “Blue Reef Balls.”
More flatfish and some red drum are feeding around oyster bars, grass edges, and potholes in Bonaparte Creek. The reds will also bite live baits and Gulps, and anglers can cast a wide variety of other artificials with success as well.
Larger reds and some speckled trout are looking for food around the Little River jetties. Live shrimp fished under floats along the rocks will fool both inshore predators. Anglers can also target the bigger reds with menhaden and mullet fished on Carolina rigs near the ends of the jetties and out in the inlet.
Steve, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports that anglers landed some fat flounder last week (some over 4 lbs.) on live baits fished on the bottom.
Anglers bottom fishing with shrimp are hooking sea mullet and croaker.
Some bluefish have been falling for both bottom rigs and casting lures that anglers are working.
The water is 83 degrees.
