Mark, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing Charters, reports that anglers are connecting with red drum around the Little River jetty, Sunset Beach bridge, and other spots off the ICW. Most are falling for peanut menhaden on Carolina rigs.

High lunar tides this week should make for some excellent conditions to chase tailing reds on flooded grass flats for anglers with shallow draft flats boats, skiffs, and kayaks.

Bonnethead sharks are also feeding at the jetties and pouncing on cut menhaden.

Some large speckled trout are on the feed around the jetties and taking an interest in shrimp imitations like Vudus.

Flounder fishing remains solid in Tubbs Inlet. Anglers are tempting bites from the flatfish on live mud minnows and peanut menhaden pinned to Carolina rigs.

Spanish mackerel are feeding around the Little River sea buoy and nearby. The spaniards are falling for Deadly Dick lures cast to fish chasing bait on the surface and jigged vertically when the fish go deep.

Spadefish are feeding on the nearshore wrecks and reefs, where anglers can chum them up with cannonball jellyfish and use small pieces of the jellies as hook baits to put them in the boat.

Patrick, of Capt. Smiley’s Fishing Charters, reports that anglers are connecting with red drum and speckled trout in the shallow backwaters of Dunn Sound, Bonaparte Creek, and other spots between Little River and Sunset Beach. The fish are feeding in slightly deeper potholes surrounded by the shallow water, and anglers casting live mud minnows and soft plastic baits in the potholes are hooking both. The reds also have a tough time resisting cut baits or chunks of crab.

Flounder fishing has been solid as well, with anglers finding fish in many of the popular local spots like Tubbs Inlet and Cherry Grove, along with ICW structure. Live mud minnows, peanut menhaden, and Gulp baits pinned to jigheads will all fool the flatfish.

Bennett, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports that anglers have seen some solid spot runs recently and are also hooking some sea mullet while bottom fishing with shrimp and bloodworms.

Spanish mackerel and bluefish are taking an interest in Gotcha plugs and mackerel tree rigs.
The water is 76 degrees.
