Mark, of Shallow Minded Inshore Fishing Charters, reports that anglers are connecting with some red drum in Bonaparte Creek. Live shrimp and mud minnows are tempting the bites from the reds. The flounder bite has also been solid in Bonaparte over the past few weeks (with good numbers of 3-5 lb. fish). They’ll also bite live shrimp or mud minnows.
Red and black drum are also on the feed around the Sunset Beach Bridge and at nearby structure. Live shrimp will fool both, but anglers who can’t find shrimp can fool the reds on live and cut menhaden or mud minnows.
Dirty and rough conditions have made it tough to fish the Little River jetties in recent days, but there should still be action with red drum and flounder in the area when it’s fishable. Both will fall for menhaden.
Tubbs Inlet is producing a decent flounder bite along with some red drum (most 18-22”). Live shrimp, mud minnows, menhaden, and Gulp baits will all tempt bites from the reds and flatfish.
Patrick, of Capt. Smiley Fishing Charters, reports that the speckled trout action in the ICW between Little River and Sunset Beach has been good over the past week. Anglers are hooking most of the specks on live shrimp under popping corks, but D.O.A. shrimp have also proven effective lately when the genuine article is hard to come by.
Black and red drum, flounder, and more specks are looking for meals in Tubbs Inlet, where they’ll all strike live shrimp. Gulp baits and mud minnows can also prove effective.
More reds are feeding in Bonaparte Creek and the Calabash River. Mud minnows rigged under popping corks are producing plenty of action in both waterways.
And even more reds are feeding in Little River Inlet, along with ladyfish, bluefish, and a summer mixed bag of other species. They’ll all bite live shrimp.
Lillian, of Cherry Grove Pier, reports that some spot, sea mullet, and puppy drum are taking an interest in bottom rigs baited with shrimp around the pier.
More pups and some flounder are biting live minnows on the bottom.
