Betty, of TW’s Tackle, reports that that prior to the windy and rough conditions early in the week, surf casters fishing the northern beaches were still connecting with panfish like spot and sea mullet, along with some bluefish. Shrimp, bloodworms, and cut baits on bottom rigs are producing most of the surf action.

The offshore fleet continues to see excellent billfish action in the blue water off Oregon Inlet, with big numbers of blue and white marlin releases along with some sailfish last week. Meat fishing offshore hasn’t been shabby, either, as boats continue to bring back plenty of yellowfin tuna and dolphin to the docks. Ballyhoo paired with skirted trolling lures are fooling most of the offshore gamefish.
Offshore bottomfishing has been solid as well, with big hauls of tilefish lately.
Melissa, of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, reports that billfish continue to delight anglers trolling off Oregon Inlet, and big numbers of white and blue marlin release flags are waving from the outriggers when the fleet returns. Plenty of sailfish are in the mix as well.
Boats targeting meatfish are also finding plenty of action, with yellowfin tuna and dolphin the mainstays right now. Naked and skirted ballyhoo are producing most of the action with both the billfish and the meatfish.
Bottom fishing offshore has been productive, too, with big hauls of blueline tilefish the most common catch.
Nearshore trollers are connecting with excellent catches of spanish mackerel and bluefish while pulling Clarkspoons behind trolling weights and planers. Good numbers of false albacore are in the mix as well.
