Betty, of TW’s Tackle, reports that anglers are hooking sea mullet and good numbers of bluefish from the local beaches. Some puppy drum are also in the mix. Shrimp, bloodworms, and cut baits are all producing results in the surf.
Anglers fishing the sound around the Little Bridge are still connecting with some speckled trout while casting soft plastic baits. Bottom fishing in the area is producing some black drum, croaker, and sheepshead.
Spanish mackerel and bluefish are still feeding in the sound and ocean around Oregon Inlet, where boats can hook them on trolled Clarkspoons and other small, flashy lures.
Large red drum and cobia are looking for meals around Oregon Inlet as well. Anglers can hook them on sight-cast bucktail jigs, live baits, and other offerings.
Bottom fishing around nearshore structure is producing plenty of action with triggerfish.
The offshore fleet is still reporting some excellent white marlin action along the break. Most are falling for naked ballyhoo trolled with dredge and daisy chain teasers. Solid numbers of dolphin are in the area as well, and they’re also taking an interest in ballyhoo.
Ashley, of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, reports that anglers are still seeing some incredible white marlin action off Oregon Inlet, with many boats returning with double-digit numbers of release flags flying. A few blue marlin have been in the mix as well. Ballyhoo are fooling most of the billfish. Some gaffer dolphin, wahoo, and tuna are mixed in with the bills and falling for the same baits.
Nearshore boats are finding plenty of action with red drum, cobia, and spinner sharks while sight-casting to fish feeding on the surface.
Plenty of bluefish and some fat spanish mackerel are feeding around Oregon Inlet and taking an interest in trolled spoons.
Bottom fishing around nearshore structure has been very productive with triggerfish recently. The tasty triggers will bite a variety of baits.
Back in the sound, there’s still a strong speckled trout and puppy drum bite, along with some keeper and larger flounder. Soft plastics and live baits are fooling the inshore predators.
Dave, of Skiligal Sportfishing, reports that the white marlin bite is going strong off northeastern NC right now. Boats are tallying big numbers of releases of the acrobatic marlin while trolling naked and skirted ballyhoo along with dredge and daisy chain teasers.
Boats targeting meatfish are still connecting with decent numbers of yellowfin tuna and a few dolphin and wahoo.
Bottom fishing has also been productive lately, with tilefish and sea bass making up most of the catch.
Rob, of Strike’Em Sportfishing, reports that white marlin and sailfish are on the feed off Oregon Inlet, and anglers are releasing excellent numbers on most recent days. Ballyhoo are fooling the billfish.
Mike, of Jennette’s Pier, reports that bottom fishermen are connecting with pompano, sea bass, triggerfish, croaker, pigfish, and more. Shrimp, squid, and bloodworms are all producing action with the bottom feeders.
Anglers soaking small live baits on the bottom are hooking some keeper flounder.
Anglers working casting lures have found good action with bluefish and spanish mackerel recently.
Some sheepshead are feeding around the pier, and a few anglers are fishing for them successfully.
