Brant, of Ocean Isle Fishing Center, reports that the spanish mackerel bite has been good along the beaches, and the cobia are showing up in the 40-80’ depth range. Grouper are showing up in the 80’ depth range.
Schools of king mackerel are being found in 50-65’ of water.
Mahi are moving along the edge of the Stream break in 110-150’ of water.
Farris, of Rod and Reel Shop, reports that surf anglers are catching plenty of whiting and bluefish on cut shrimp along with bluefish.
Speckled trout are being caught in the inlet using live shrimp and various artificial baits.
Nearshore, along the beach the spanish mackerel action is picking up, with cobia showing up as well.
Out in the Gulf Stream, there has been solid action with mahi, wahoo, and tuna.
Kyle, of Speckulator Inshore Fishing Charters, reports that trout are being caught along the ICW, near shell banks, and along the jetty. Live shrimp has been the best tactic for the trout.
Flounder action has been solid around Tubbs Inlet, in Shallote River, and on docks along the ICW, but many of the fish being caught are small.
Black drum are feeding around docks along the ICW. Live mud minnows, live shrimp, and cut baits will all be effective.
Sheepshead are being caught around the area bridges and pilings.
Tyson, of Ocean Isle Beach Fishing Pier, reports that there has been some decent action with spanish mackerel and speckled trout, but the bite has been “on and off.” The spanish have been hitting plugs, and the trout have been biting on shrimp.
Bottom fishermen have been catching flounder and a few sharks. A 40 lb. cobia was also landed on the pier this past week.
