Bringing industry standards like the lever drag pre-set control and the built in strike drag setting to the fishing world in 1966, the anodized gold gleam of Penn International big game reels has been sparkling from sportfish cockpits and shattering world records ever since. The reels quickly became the standard in lever drag performance after their introduction, and they remain the most popular big game reels on the market.
While the shiny sideplates, frames, and spools of Internationals have an undeniable appeal for anglers everywhere, everybody enjoys having something that stands out from the crowd. Thankfully, gold is no longer the only option.
Penn’s new Custom Shop program allows anglers with an individualistic bent to customize reels with various parts in six new anodized colors, perfect for matching their boats or custom big game rods.
In addition to the classic gold, anglers can choose between International Silver, Gunsmoke, Solid Black, American Red, American Blue, and Tournament Pink (a portion of the proceeds from each Tournament Pink reel go to the American Breast Cancer Foundation). The colors are applied to four main exterior parts of the reel, the frame, sideplates, spool, and lever drag knob. And anglers aren’t limited to just one color—combinations of any of the parts in up to two colors are available.
After selecting their colors, anglers can truly customize the reel by taking advantage of the custom engraving program Penn offers. A choice of gold or black ink etched into the reels’ left sideplates enables a fully one-of-a-kind creation. The Custom Shop offers the American flag and Penn logos, or a choice of four gamefish (dolphin, blue marlin, sailfish, or tuna) for graphics on the center of the sideplate. The boat’s name and port of call or any other text can be added around the top of the sideplate.
All the reels in the International V series are available with the Custom Shop treatment, and each is built one-at-a-time at Penn’s plant in Philadelphia, PA.
