Calcutta Discover Sunglasses

For over a decade, Calcutta has manufactured a line of affordable, polarized sunglasses designed for cost conscious anglers and outdoorsmen. With a quality product at a retail of $21-$29, Calcutta shades have not only been great sellers, but a popular choice for anglers with a tendency to lose or break their glasses.

Now with a more technical approach, but while keeping affordability in mind, Calcutta has launched a higher-end line of glasses geared towards the serious outdoorsmen.

Dubbed the Discover Series, Calcutta’s premium line of sunglasses is built with TR90 composite frames. This material is twice as strong as the frame material in their original line, while also reducing the weight significantly. The resulting frames rival the durability and strength found in competitors’ glasses, such as Costa Del Mar and Smith Optics.

Most importantly, the lenses are far superior to those found in their original line. The C3 Vision lenses feature an anti-scratch, hard coating, providing an extra protective layer of scratch resistance on top of the polycarbonate lens. This coating also increases the strength of the poly lens itself, rendering it virtually shatterproof.

The mirrored lenses in the series feature five layers of a mirror coating used by NASA to protect satellite lenses, providing an anti-reflective coating that reduces even the brightest of glares.

The Discover Series’ lenses are 100% polarized and provide 100% protection against UVA and UVB rays, as expected in premium sunglasses.

Retailing from $79.99-$89.99, Calcutta Discover Series glasses come in at a much lower price point than competing brands in outdoor performance eyewear. Each pair comes with both a hard case and cleaning cloth, and they are available in frame colors from the standard black and tortoise, to more “beachy” styles such as wood grain and black-over-tortoise.

Non-mirrored lenses are gray in color, and mirrored options include a blue, green, and silver mirror.

With eight frame styles to choose from, there is a model for everyone that provides the perfect fit along with desired style.

Calcutta Discover Series sunglasses started shipping to dealers in February, and more information can be found online at www.calcuttaoutdoors.com.
