Product Reviews – Grundens Superwatch Foul Weather Gear

Every angler knows the value of staying dry, whether from a sudden rainstorm or the spray of a quartering chop. This time of year as the temperatures fall, good outerwear is essential to warmth and staying on the bite for a full day, regardless of the elements. With die hard recreational and commercial fishermen alike in mind, Grundens has released their new SuperWatch line – sure to be their most durable line of outerwear yet.
Available in both bibs and an anorak-syle hooded pullover, the SuperWatch line is made of 500-denier nylon oxford fabric. This heavy duty fabric is then treated with a 5K Polyurethane coating with all seams taped and sealed, giving it a 10K mm waterproof rating. Sounds the same as all the other commercial-style bibs and jackets, right?
Here’s the kicker – in certain areas on the bibs and pullover, a new “Superfabric” with a ceramic coating comprises the outer, and is actually cut-proof. We didn’t believe it either, until the Grundens rep did his best Norman Bates/Yan Can Cook impression on a brand new pair of SuperWatch bibs. While I’m glad I wasn’t wearing the bibs myself, there were no tears or cuts and could almost be put on the sales rack. Are they completely puncture or “stab”-proof? Probably not. But repetitive slices from a brand new Dexter did not slice nor cut through the fabric.
The result is a flexible and comfortable set of outerwear, which in high stress and key areas is overly abrasion resistant and sure to endure season after season of abuse from tough fishing. The SuperWatch line also has a 5K mvp breathable membrane inner, which reduces overheating in warmer temperatures or from thermal inner wear. The bibs have adjustable suspenders as well as a zippered storage pocket in the chest. The anorak features include a full sized hood with an internal hem lock cord controlled hood, along with recessed neoprene cuffs and a large zippered pocket.
The SuperWatch line is also reasonably priced, with the tops and bottoms both retailing for $149.99-$159.99 respectively. Available in sizes from Small to 5X, there is a set for any sized angler seeking the ultimate in waterproofing and durability in their outerwear. SuperWatch anoraks and bibs are available at several local Grundens dealers and tackle shops, with more information at: https://shop.grundens.com.
