Chris, at East Coast Sports, reports that area piers have been doing well on kings this past week, with Surf City Pier and Sea View Pier with the most. There were also tarpon hooked up over the weekend. The piers have also been seeing some small runs of spots.
In the surf expect to hook ladyfish at night. There have also been some blues, some pompano, and a few big reds.
Inside the flounder bite continues to be slow. This is due at least in part to less baitfish than normal. And the mullet that are in the area are running small-small enough to go through a 3/8″ net. There is some action with sheepshead inside, including a few fish in the 8 lb. class weighed in. You can also find some ladyfish at night.
The small kings are all over the beach, but there have also been a few bigger ones mixed in, including one weighing 43 lbs.
A few dolphin were caught recently at Honeymoon and Dallas Rock. There were also a few sails released over the weekend at Honeymoon.
Frank, at Seaview Pier, reports a nice 115 lb. tarpon was caught this week as well as an 11 lb. king mackerel. Blues and spanish are still making runs for the pluggers. A 6 lb. sheepshead was caught this week, and flounder have picked up a little as well. Sea mullet and spots are biting after dark.
Eric, at New River Marina, reports that king mackerel fishing is very good just off the inlet and nearshore. The dolphin have been mixing in as close as three miles. Black drum and sheepshead are biting crabs around pilings, with the high rise bridge a good place to try. Spanish have even moved inside the inlet and into the waterway. Redfish are biting upriver and along the intracoastal waterway. There’s been good catches of flounder in the river, as well as some spots and croakers.
