Chris, at East Coast Sports, reports that the area piers have brought in some big fish recently, including several kings, a cobia, and a tarpon. Blues, however, have been the main catch. As for bottom fishing, look to find a few sea mullet, a few pompano, and a spots.
The surf has seen lots of blues, a few big mullet, and a few pompano.
Fishing inside is producing a few sheepshead, primarily at the Surf City drawbridge. Also look to find a few black drum and croakers.
There are tons of schoolie-sized kings around AR-362 and 7-11. The Manns stretch 25’s and the deep-diving yo-zuris have been working well on the kings. To catch some of the cobia in the area, try live blues just off the beach at AR-360.
Further offshore, the wahoo bite has been on at WR-2.
Capt Ricky Kellum, with Speckled Specialist Charters, reports good speckled trout fishing very early in the mornings. A few 4-pounders are there, but most of the fish are 2 to 3 pounds. A few flounder are in the river, as well has a good black drum and sheepshead bite around the bridge. Slot size redfish are hanging out around the pilings of the bridge, and they will hit live shrimp. Just outside the inlet, the spanish fishing is still good if you want to troll. Nearshore, the smaller kings will keep you busy on spoons or live bait.
Frank, at Seaview Pier, reports yet another king mackerel landed this week. This one tipped the scales at around 11 lbs. Blues and a few spanish are still keeping the pluggers interested. Sheepshead have arrived in good numbers, if you target them around the pilings. A few sea mullet, spots, and flounder are being caught on the bottom. Tarpon have been sighted, but no hookups yet.
