Chris, at East Coast Sports, reports that Surf City Pier had chopper blues, two kings, two barracudas, some spanish, and a few spots and sea mullet. Jolly Roger Pier had a few spanish, lots of blues, and a few spots and mullet. They also had a tarpon jump, a big cobia landed, and lots of barracudas hooked up. Sea View Pier had three kings, a few blues, a couple of trout, and a mixed bag of bottom fish.
In the surf from New River Inlet to Surf City, there have been sea mullet and reds. The surf from Surf City to Topsail Beach had lots of blues, a few big mullet, and some big pompano. Topsail Beach to New Topsail Inlet had pompano and some mullet. And Lee Island continues to have good redfishing.
Sheepshead continue to be one of the main bites inside. Small kings and cobia are dominating the nearshore fishing, and dolphin are the hot bite a little further off.
Frank, at Seaview Pier, reports two tarpon hookups this week and five king mackerel landed ranging from 6 to 34 lbs. Flounder are biting a little better, with more fish being keepers. Sea mullet and spots are biting the bottom rigs. Bluefish, speckled trout, and gray trout have added some variety to the catches.
Eric, at New River Marina, reports excellent red drum fishing in the New River on live shrimp. The speckled trout bite has slowed down a lot, but a few flounder are showing up and some croakers are biting up river. The spanish are inside the inlet, and some smoker kings up to 50 lbs. have been landed offshore of the New River Inlet. Dolphin are moving in as close as three miles, if you are lucky enough to pick one up.
