September 16-17, 2011 @ Inlet Watch Yacht Club, Wilmington, NC
Welcome once again to the start of great fall fishing on the NC coast, and there’s no better way to welcome the change in seasons (and improved fishing) than by entering the NC Flatfish Championship. We hope you decide to fish with us and be a part of the weekend festivities.
The NC Flatfish has a new home this year. We’ve moved the event to the Inlet Watch Yacht Club, a full service marina overlooking the Carolina Beach Inlet. Troy and the rest of the crew at Inlet Watch have been very accommodating and are excited to show off their facility to our tournament anglers (many don’t know it’s the biggest marina in North Carolina).
Inlet Watch will serve as tournament HQ and will be the site of all of our weekend activities, including registration, weigh-in, and awards. Even if you don’t enter the tournament, we encourage you to come out Saturday afternoon from 1:00-4:00 to watch the weigh-in (and bring some money for t-shirts and raffle tickets).
And we always like to remind people that our fall tournament is a true flounder tournament. First place goes to the boat with the heaviest two-flatfish aggregate. You can also enter the Big Fish TWT or High Roller TWT if you like competing for just the one heaviest fish (and new this year we added a Two Fish TWT).
A popular returning tournament feature this year is the “Beat the Record” prize. If you set a new tournament record by beating last year’s two-flounder aggregate of 15.92 lbs., then you’ll win a hand-crafted copper art work compliments of Matt Davis and Marine Copper Designs.
And of course another popular returning feature is our live flounder bonus payouts. We’re paying out a $10 bonus (up to $20 per boat) for every flounder weighed in alive that makes the leader board. The live fish get released (or they are donated to UNCW’s flounder hatchery), and you get some extra cash. It’s a win/win.
Another change this year that we’re excited about is our new beneficiary. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Cape Fear Community College Marine Tech Club
The success of the NC Flatfish Championship lies in our participants and the efforts of our volunteers, but we also couldn’t do it without the support of some fantastic sponsors. Please let our sponsors know that you appreciate their involvement and dedication to the flounder fishermen of North Carolina.
So here’s your shot at the NC Flatfish title. Be the champ!
Thank you,
Gary Hurley
